Heidi Nikolaisen: We Belong to the Same Tree
During the period 1815 to 1930 sixty million people emigrated from Europe. Most of them went to the USA, however some went to Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Madagascar. During the same period 858 200 Norwegians emigrated, among them my grandmother’s four siblings who emigrated from Norway to Canada. Norway at this time was a poor country and the desire for a better life was their driving force.
